Trustworthy Cellphone Concept

ABOUT THIS PAPER PUBLICATION

The GSM encryption has long been known to be insecure and one could crack the algorithm with about $1,000 worth of equipment, more if one wanted real-time. The best bet was to consider GSM calls as unencrypted and unauthenticated (just to be safe). Unfortunately, solutions like CryptoPhone aren't satisfactory either. They are built on an insecure OS (WinMobile or Symbian), have secret firmware/drivers, and are usually remotely controllable by the manufacturer.
